i think you'd fit nicely in france... i'm off for lunch

elindra SG

Got the garlic one too

Also super shiok is chopped chilli with raw garlic, soysauce and a touch of lime

Wanda SG

Yep, yep! Add a bit of chopped coriander to that and you've got the Kunming style of chilli dip for dumplings. Smile

Edit: oh, and plus a touch of sesame oil.

the Bear SG

wait a minute.. so many teochew people here.. got to ask if anyone knows where to get pickled vinegar crab?

teochew call it 'buar kee'

it's mangrove tree-climbing crabs which are soaked raw in dark soy sauce, chilli and garlic over a few days, served with vinegar and chilli, eaten with teochew porridge...

elindra SG

Hmmm this dip sounds good
Need to try

elindra SG

I dunno where to get it
My grandaunt used to make this dish to eat with porridge

fudgester SG

I kinda understand why some people would want to toss in lots of points into the fray... after all, if you're graduating soon, and you need the module, you'd do anything you can to get it.

Rather, I reserve my insults and profanities for the idiots who designed this system for module allocation. Basket... the system is totally messed-up, and they refuse to listen to feedback on how to make it fairer for everyone. Mad

Hell, even the server is messed up... I kept getting all sorts of funny errors just now. Mad

stellazio SG

talking bout dialects dishes.

i just recently found out from my faher that those hawker centres stalls that sells "hokkien mee" is actually just prawn mee/sotong mee etc.

the real hokkien mee is brown in colour, and has sauce on it. but very few places sells it already.

is this true?

the Bear SG

sad thing is that i know where to get the crabs, i know how to make the stuff...

but i don't think i'd eat the crabs coz.. they live on the rubbish heap which the locals in Muar dump in their dump site...

here in Singapore, they're around.. only in the nature sanctuaries where i would not remove anything.. even for gluttony purposes.. Laughing

elindra SG

Actually I think you might have problems getting this dish coz I dun think the swamp crabs are available commercially?

Wanda SG

Pickled vinegar crab....don't remember it, but I can ask my mom.

Is it buar3 kee3 or buar4 kee1 ? Must get the tone right first. Laughing
